The government have made the decision to extend the tax exemption for employer reimbursed expenses that cover the cost of qualifying equipment for working from home! The exemption, which was due to end on the 5th of April this year, has been extended to the 5th of April 2022.
This policy will make it much easier for employees to remain as productive as possible by accessing all of the equipment they need without the worry of taxes. For employers, you won’t need to worry about declaring these reimbursements, which would normally be eligible for income tax and NICs.
Do I Qualify?
If you are working from home as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and have purchased equipment to help facilitate this, such as desks, audio-visual equipment, chairs and so on, or if you are an employer who has encouraged staff to do so with a promise of reimbursement.
What Does this Exemption Mean for Me?
This exemption will ensure that employees are reimbursed for their home equipment without being subject to income tax or Class 1 NICs. This means that every penny you spent in order to work from home goes straight back into your pocket.
Some of the items covered include but are not limited to:
- Laptops
- Desks
- Chairs
- Headphones/Microphones
- Computer Accessories
